Angels Among Us: Irena Sendler

Irena Sendler
Died: May 12, 2008 (aged 98) Warsaw , Poland During WWII,
Irena, got permission to work in the Warsaw ghetto, as a Plumbing/Sewer specialist. She had an ulterior motive, Irena smuggled Jewish infants out in the bottom of the tool box she carried. She also carried a burlap sack in the back of her truck for larger children. Irena kept a dog in the back of her truck that she had trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto. The soldiers, of course, wanted nothing to do with the dog and the barking which covered the kids/infants noises.
During her time of doing this, she managed to smuggle out and save 2500 kids/infants.
Ultimately, she was caught, however, and the Nazi’s broke both of her legs and arms and beat her severely.
Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she had smuggled out in a glass jar that she buried under a tree in her back yard. After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived and tried to reunite the family. Most had been gassed. Those kids she helped got placed into foster family homes or adopted.
In 2007 Irena was up for the Nobel Peace Prize.
She was not selected.
Al Gore won, for a slide show on Global Warming.
Later, another politician, Barack Obama, won for his work as a community organizer for ACORN.
In MEMORIAM – 65 YEARS LATER:
I’m doing my small part by posting this message. I hope you’ll consider doing the same. It is now more than 67 years since the Second World War in Europe ended.
This is posted in memory of the six million Jews, 20 million Russians, 10 million Christians and 1,900 Catholic priests who were murdered, massacred, raped, burned, starved and humiliated!
Now, more than ever, with Iran , and others, claiming the HOLOCAUST to be ‘a myth’, it’s imperative to make sure the world never forgets, because there are others who would like to do it again.
Irena always insisted that when her story was told, it must be stressed that the real heroes were the parents and grandparents who gave up their children so they could be saved. Please remember the courage and sacrifice of this inspirational person who gave so much for the lives of so many.
What is Our Purpose?
The Bible is clear that our purpose on earth is to bring glory to God. This theme is repeated again and again, in both the Old and New Testaments: 1 Chronicles 16:29; Psalm 34:3; Psalm 86:9; Psalm 96:8; Matthew 5:16; Romans 15:6; Romans 15:9; 1 Peter 2:12
While Irena Sendler lived out a noble and moving purpose, saving the lives of innocent children, our purpose as Christians is even more important – I would submit it is FAR more important. While it is a beautiful and honorable thing to save human lives, consider how much more meaningful it is to save eternal souls from separation with God. Certainly the Lord commanded us to love others while we are here on earth through the “Great Commandment,” Matthew 22:35-40. But He also commanded us to evangelize and disciple the entire world, through the “Great Commission,” Matthew 28:18-20.
This is a call for an examination of our hearts. What is the primary focus of your life? Are you prepared to live solely for God’s purposes? Where do you stand on your spiritual journey? You may long for a life-changing experience – but when it happens, are you really ready for your life to change?
May God bless you as you seek His will for your life.
It will only take you a minute to pass this along.
Throughout the history of His interaction with mankind, He has acted with great determination. Make no mistake about this: His mission is to make Himself known to us and to foster a relationship of love with us.

Dear Lisa,
I was born in Poland and Irena used to be my fellow-citizen.
I knew stories of this kind you wrote from tales of my grandmother – her husband and my granfather spent a couple of years in two German concentration camps: Mauthausen-Gusen (Linz, Austria) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mauthausen-Gusen_concentration_camp and in Dachau (Bavaria, Germany) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dachau_concentration_camp before he finally died.
I read a lot stories like this about Irena Sendler, Jan Karski etc and don’t understand why authors use the term “NAZI”?
What is Nazi? If we ask this question to Facebook users or a bit older generation – would they know who was Nazi ? In Poland we call them simply GERMANS and this guarantees nobody, never would have any doubt who did all these horrible things to millions of people. Let me tell you that also 6 million of Poles were killed or murdered during WW II out of 38 million population which makes 16%.
Please use term German Nazi in your future posts.
Best regards,
Jakub
